Product Description
Intel Core i7 Processor i7-2600 3.4GHz 8MB LGA1155 CPU
From the Manufacturer
Part of Intel's family of 2nd generation Intel Core computer processors, the Intel Core i7-2600 Processor delivers speed and smooth performance--whether you're creating high-definition videos, playing 3D games, or simply browsing the Internet. The Core i7-2600 is a quad-core processor running at 3.4 GHz with 8 MB of L3 cache, and uses the LGA1155 socket. It offers a rich set of features, including Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, eight-way multitasking with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, and Virtualization Technology, that improve speed and computing productivity. Built-in visual technologies, like Clear Video and InTru3D, support high-definition and Blu-ray playback.
Intel Core i7-2600 Processor
Quad-Core Processor Running at 3.4 GHz for Fast Performance
The Intel Core i7-2600 has four cores and runs at a speedy 3.4 GHz. It features an 8 MB L3 shared cache that is dynamically allocated to each processor core, based on workload. This reduces latency and improves performance.
Additionally, the i7 comes with Advanced Vector Extensions, a set of instructions to improve software performance for intensive applications like audio processing, audio codecs, and image and video editing applications.
Turbo Boost for Extra Processor Speed
The Core i7-2600 features Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, allowing it to run at 3.8 GHz when the workload demands additional performance. The technology dynamically increases the processor's frequency as needed by taking advantage of thermal and power headroom when operating below specified limits. The result is adaptive performance that's more intelligent and energy efficient.
Hyper-Threading for Better Multitasking
Intel Hyper-Threading Technology allows each of the Core i7's four processor cores to work on two tasks at the same time, improving multitasking, speeding up the workflow, and getting more done in less time. This makes your PC more responsive--and it makes that dreaded hourglass a thing of the past.
Built-In Visuals Provide Rich, Steady Graphics
The Core i7-2600 features built-in visuals that deliver a seamless graphic experience and eliminate the need for a discrete graphics card, reducing power consumption and system cost. The i7-2600 has a graphic clock speed of 850 MHz and speeds up to 1350 MHz when turbo is enabled.
Intel Quick Sync Video enables quick conversions of video files for portable media players or online sharing. Experience sharp images and rich color with Clear Video Technology, which provides visual quality and color fidelity enhancements for vivid high-definition and Blu-ray playback. HD Graphics offers enhanced 3D performance for immersive mainstream and casual gaming without hesitations or interruptions.
The Intel Core i7 is also equipped with Intel InTru3D, which provides stereoscopic 3D Blu-ray playback in full 1080p resolution and premium audio via HDMI 1.4.
Intel Virtualization Technology
Intel Virtualization Technology allows multiple "virtual" environments to function on one hardware platform. It offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions.
Optimized for Energy Efficiency
The Intel Core i7-2600 is designed to optimize every watt of electricity, resulting in a more energy-efficient system that is cooler and cheaper to run. In a system with other energy-efficient components, the processor can meet Energy Star specifications.
What's in the Box
Intel Core i7-2600 processor, fan/heat-sink cooling solution, warranty booklet, and Intel Inside logo label.

I normally use two 21" widescreen monitors, but often hook this rig up to my 55" Samsung LED and it never skips a beat! As a critical part of the PC, I think its good not to skimp on a processor. I didn't need the unlocked one as I have no need to overclock and this run pretty quick.
OH so you don't get fooled like I did, it goes come with a HeatSink/FAN. I wasn't sure if it did and bought another one, but I'm glad I did as it never gets above 90F (coupled with the case I bought -- see parts list)
Here is the complete build list for my PC (Monitors and TV not included I did this all for under $1000!!!!) I just watched for the best values on Amazon over a few weeks as I was in no rush.
I used this processor to start my first PC build Intel Core i7-2600 Processor 3.4GHz 8 MB Cache Socket LGA1155

This power supply was bought to cover the power needs of the Video card and with the thoughts of possible expansion but it is really overkill for me right now, but I'd rather have more power and its highly rated Corsair Enthusiast Series 650-Watt 80 Plus Bronze Certified Power Supply Compatible with Intel Core i3, i5, i7 and AMD platforms - CMPSU-650TXV2

4*4 for 16 gig of RAM, I may get 2 8 gig chips later but these work great, the first batch was a little off and memtest failed, but I used Amazon's easy return/exchange process to get another set. Corsair Vengeance Blue 16 GB DDR3 SDRAM Dual Channel Memory Kit CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9B
I didn't know that it came with a HeatSink and Fan so I bought, this but for the $20 I paid its awesome and super quite! Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler, RR-B10-212P-G1

Intel has always had horrible graphics. But with all the hype coming with these processors about being good for gaming and video etc, I thought maybe they had stepped up their game. I can't even get Aero to run smoothly. Trying to get a Windows Experience Index rating is impossible because it crashes when testing video playback. This thing can't even play Tomb Raider II smoothly (yes, the Windows 95 game). I can't imagine trying to play any modern games without a real video card.
I bought this with a motherboard that had HDMI on it to use with this processor's graphics chip. I'm writing this review in the hopes that nobody else will make my mistake and use the money saved to just buy a video card. Trust me, my outdated GeForce 210 is WAY better than this, and that is what I will be using until I can get something better.

My advice is get ASUS motherboard and buy this, you do not need the (K) version.
Amazing CPU, running at 4.6 Ghz, hardly been above 20% usage yet. Blows anything AMD has into space.
My build:
Gigabyte full ATX
P8P67 3.0 1155 motherboard
i7 2600 (Non K) Turbo V overclocked to 4.6 Ghz
Sandisk SSD - Windows 7 installed on
G-Skill 16gb RAM 2100 mhz XMP profile
500gb Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid
1 TB Western Digital green
1 TB Samsang
Lite-on DVD rom 16x speed
So - You will not need to upgrade for another five years, There is nothing out there that comes close for the money.
Thanks
