The NZXT E-850 was delivered as literally a black box of secrets. Tearing into this unit's spec list, we can see the amount of detail and attention that has been put into the design. To our delight, it's no surprise that when NZXT decided to reassess the PSU market, they began working with Seasonic to provide the best product possible. It's important that these decisions are made from the ground up when trying to deliver a product with such a high quality.
What is great about NZXT's design approach is that in order for the unit to be able to monitor each of your components, it had to be built to use the same protection that a multi-rail unit provides. This method provides true overcurrent protection for all 12V1, 12V2, and 12V3 connections. Which is fantastic as it provides additional protection for the most costly and precious components of your system, the CPU and GPU. This protection is coupled with Seasonic's legendary voltage regulation which ensures that the power provided to the 12V, 5V, and 3.3V rails are all within three percent.
While the appearance of the unit may appear simple, all of the real effort and ingenuity has gone into the internal design and component selection. These units are practically overbuilt, which is likely why NZXT felt comfortable enough to offer an astounding 10-year warranty on its E-series units.
The performance on the E-850 has been nothing short of exceptional. The unit runs cool and quiet. It unsurprisingly has held up its end of things when it came to the heavy lifting of power-hungry components. The E-850 easily proved its Gold efficiency rating even during our load and temperature test. The voltage regulation was fantastic and exactly what we had hoped for when using Seasonic as the OEM.
With more power-hungry graphics cards just around the corner, we can't stress enough the importance of a high-quality PSU. The better the PSU, the better your component can perform. It's essential for the health of your components to have a great PSU. The best part is the E-850 provides graphical data to help you know if anything is ever abnormal with your system. The NZXT E-850 is a digital masterpiece and we can't wait to see how NZXT continues to integrate with the CAM software package.
