EVGA SuperNOVA G3 1000W Power Supply Review

EVGA SuperNOVA G3 1000W

The EVGA SuperNova G3 1000w is a very exciting unit to review. This year has proven itself to be the year of the tiny power supplies and it's interesting how true that remains even for this 1000w unit. Has the new smaller chassis and fan compromised the previous generation's exceptional performance record or are things just as great as we remember?

All testing has been performed with the ECO mode disabled. This was done primarily because we wanted to see how the new fan performed. The ECO mode on these units will cause decreased fan operation until it is absolutely necessary. I have no doubt the unit will cool without issue so validating the claims of the new fan seemed more important.

I'm happy to report that the fan does really feel whisper quiet. It's extremely difficult to distinguish if the fan is even running with the whole rig turned on. Testing outside the rig revealed very little audible noise. You almost have to put your ear against the unit to hear the fan it really is very quiet. This might be one of the quietest fans we've ever tested on a PSU. It's likely that much of that has to do with EVGA's fan curve, but we can't fault it right now, it's very quiet.

The EVGA SuperNova G3 does not lack in any regard when it comes to performance. The unit proved its efficiency certification with flying colors. The improved ripple control that has been touted with this unit has proven to be very impressive. All things considered, this unit has blown us away when it comes to performance. No matter what we threw at it whether it was etherium mining, gaming, video editing, streaming, anything that could create immense power draw, the unit was perfect and performed in the best way possible. It's not every day we get a unit this great on the test bench and that really speaks volumes to what EVGA has done with this lineup. If the higher end and premium efficiency units perform as well as the G3, it would be hard to look elsewhere for a performance oriented unit.

While it's difficult to speak to the long-term reliability of the new G3 series, the prior G2 generation has stood the test of time. With EVGA still using premium Japanese components and improved fans, we do not suspect any issues with reliability. During our time with the unit we were unable to find a single fault in this regard. In all scenarios, the unit performed as expected. If you were to ever have a problem EVGA has you covered with an unheard of 10-year warranty. That really shows how impressive these units are and the faith that EVGA has in this lineup.

The verdict is out and the EVGA SuperNova series has never ceased to impress us. Regardless of the changes brought on with the next generation, the SuperNova series has only improved itself beyond what we thought was possible on such a unit. EVGA has yet again proven itself as a forerunner in the PSU realm. While the unit may not appear flashy or colorful, it has everything right under the hood and that's why so many enthusiasts have made the move to EVGA in recent years.
