What can we say, we love fully modular units and EVGA has provided exactly that with the G3 series of PSU's. While the modular ports are all clearly labeled, this is not a unit for a novice. The unit has a total of fourteen modular ports on the back of it, which may prove slightly confusing to a novice user. The labeling is on point and it's unlikely that a cable could be plugged up incorrectly. EVGA has done a great job with this unit and it really will appeal to those power users who crave the utmost performance.
The unit presents itself as a very straightforward power house that is intended to do one thing and that is provide performance. EVGA did a great job with the chassis, everything is clearly labeled and some portions have even received upgrades. The new chassis size can't be overstated. The previous generation G2 clocked in at 200mm in length whereas the new chassis is 150mm. Not only is the unit smaller, but the 140mm fan was replaced by a 130mm with an upgraded bearing.
One important tactile and ease of use change that EVGA included with the G3 unit is the ECO switch. This was a feature on the prior generation G2 units, however the switch design caused it to be very flat and difficult to find and use. While the slider switch ensured that ECO mode would not be turned on accidentally, the new switch I feel is a much better implementation. The new switch is the same type as the power supplies on/off switch. I know what you are thinking "this is terrible how can I tell them apart?" Do not worry my friend, EVGA made this switch much smaller than the power switch. This makes it easy to find using only feeling since it feels much smaller and different than the usual power switch. It's the best of both worlds and is exactly how the unit should be.
Cable types included are 1x 20+4-Pin ATX cable (600mm), 2x EPS/ATX12V cable (750mm), 6x 6+2-Pin PCI-E Connector (2x 700mm, 3x 750mm and 1x 850mm), 4x Molex (550/650/750/850mm), 6x SATA connectors (4x 550m, 650mm, 750mm), 1x Floppy Adapter (100mm), and 1x AC power (1500mm). EVGA opted to include standard all black cables with built in capacitors. If you need this much power, you likely do not need the space afforded by ribbon cables, but they are always nice to have. The cables included though are of no issue and are still great quality. If you have an experience with the prior G2 generation, then you know what to expect here.
It's staggering the amount of cables and connections included with this unit. The possibilities are endless and while we were joking about being able to connect two separate rigs, it almost makes you think that you could. This unit is absolutely for all those power users out there, especially the Ethereum (ETH) miners with multi-GPU rigs.
