The EVGA SuperNova G3 is a 1000w fully modular power supply. The Supernova G3 is an 80 Plus Gold rated unit. This clocks the unit as being able to perform at up to 92% efficiency while under load. What's interesting is that EVGA was able to pack all of this power into a 150mm length chassis. That's right, it's not one of those elongated 1000w power supplies. You can have your cake and eat it too! Without a doubt, this unit is built to perform. It has 100% all Japanese capacitors to provide the utmost reliability. The unit also includes EVGA's "ECO" mode which hasn't changed since the previous generation. If you're unfamiliar with ECO mode, it essentially provides the end user with the quietest operation. In most cases, the fan will not need to be running and the unit will operate in a semi-fanless mode. No need to worry though, if temperatures rise too high the fan will still turn on and cool down the unit. Otherwise, during normal operation the PSU will run with a slightly more aggressive cooling profile.
The EVGA SuperNova G3 houses a 130mm Hydraulic-Dynamic bearing fan. The new fan is touted as having an extremely long lifespan as well as extremely quiet operation. I never had an issue with the prior generation's fan, but improved reliability and quietness has never been a bad thing. This fan also has an interesting addition to it, EVGA decided to go all out and customize the fan blades. Each fan blade is covered by little EVGA logos. Each logo appears to be a raised engraving. While it's unclear if the logos provide any sort of performance gain or potentially causes more turbulence, it's an interesting addition nonetheless.
As was briefly mentioned earlier in the review, the G3 1000w unit has a 150mm chassis. It's essentially a normal sized ATX power supply. If you ever need more room or have a case that just can't house the larger units, this one should be a perfect fit. While I think the chassis has a very clean and subtle appeal, it could be considered slightly boring as far as aesthetics go. The fan grill is a welcome change to the unit and it looks great. While this does help the unit stand out, if you are looking for something to add more eye candy, this unit will not have very much to offer in that regard. This is a unit intended for the avid enthusiast, it's a perfect match for a demanding power hungry rig.
The EVGA SuperNova G3 1000w ships with an astounding 10 year warranty. Based on the track record of these EVGA units, I do not think you have anything to worry about in terms of reliability. Not only has the G3 stepped up its game to improve reliability, but the warranty seals the deal on this unit.
It's interesting to note just how cramped this box really is inside. The fan is so thick that there is a small metal bracket separating it from capacitors. I almost would appear that one of the capacitors is actually touching the metal bracket. This will not cause any issues, but it's very inspiring to see how much work EVGA put in to slimming down this design to fit in a 150mm chassis. The 130mm fan is a nice addition and is not a normal size you would find on majority of PSU's. Both sides of the chassis feature the EVGA logo along with an input/output table for power distribution. The logo is flipped on the opposing side, so regardless of how you mount this PSU you will always have quick access to check out the power distribution table if needed.
